A very good euphonium for the price with a full breadth of sound and power. It has very good intonation even in the upper register (above middle C). It is very responsive and easy to play throughout the range of instrument from the lowest notes to the highest. The valve action is brisk and consistent. I have played euphonium for 50 years with all kind of horns and this rates among the very best. You can't find a better horn for the money.

This Yamaha is a great horn for Euphonium players. I just got it today August 15, 2008 from my high school band director. I've always wanted to play a Yamaha 642. And I've heard they are excellent. But when I got it I was blown away. This horn has everything you could want in a Euphonium. It has a larger shank than most Euphoniums, which means you have a larger mouthpiece, and you can play the low registers and even high registers with the mouthpiece. But what really makes this Euphonium awesome; it has a 4th VALUE ON THE SIDE, which is called Compensating. This is a great Euphonium to buy for its price also.
