After playing a King 2280 for 5 years, I finally managed to make the step up to a compensating euphonium. After playing through a lot of the other name brands--Besson, Willson, Hirsbrunner--I came to the conclusion that the Yamaha was an awesome horn, not only for its low price, but for the immediate step up in sound production that I noticed the first time I picked up this euphonium. The valves move much quicker than on the King and the larger bell produces a big resonating sound that has filled every room I've played it in.

I have tried many different horns and talked to a lot of different people regarding brands and models of euphonium and I have come to the conclusion that the YEP642 seems to be the best choice for the widest range of players. The 642 has everything you would want from an instrument: Consistent pitch and control in the registers, and a rich tone quality, characteristic of Yamaha instruments. People anywhere from Middle School to professional find success with this model. It seems to be the best quality for the money you pay. I would strongly recommend anyone in the market to give this model a try.
