Product Description
Yamaha
Silent Brass System for Flugelhorn includes ST9 Module. The new and improved Silent Brass systems have been redesigned to include everything a player needs and nothing they dont. It is smaller and lighter while still maintaining the quietness and pitch accuracy that Silent Brass has become known for.
Product Overview and Specifications
Silent Brass System

Smaller, lighter and more portable
The redesigned Silent Brass module is smaller than a cassette tape and weighs about as much. It fits easily into a shirt pocket and can be attached to the player's belt, if desired. This makes the new Silent Brass systems much more portable and convenient.

Improved sound
The sound from this "next generation" system has been greatly improved over the previous generation. The "hiss" has been greatly reduced, allowing the player to hear more of himself and less noise.

Simplified controls and sleeker look
The new module has only a volume knob and an echo switch, eliminating the unneeded extra features and making it even more affordable.

Aux In jack
One of the things we carried over from the previous generation was the Aux In jack. This jack allows an external sound source to be combined with the signal coming from the mute or microphone. The player can then play along with their favorite song in practice and performance settings and put the fun back in their practice sessions

Input jack
The input jack allows a quick and easy connection to a Yamaha pickup mute for practice or to a Yamaha MC-7 instrument mic for performance.

Output/phones jack
The Output/ phones jack allows the Silent Brass system to be connected to earphones for private practice, an external sound system for sound reproduction, or to a recording system for recording.

Silent Brass is not only a great way for brass players to practice in peace without disturbing others, but also helps them listen up close and fine tune every note. I bought the SB6-9 Flugelhorn System with an additional PM7 trumpet mute and haven't stopped playing them since I opened the box yesterday. The only thing I can say about the pick up mute is that it adds weight to the bell since it’s a larger mute than the trumpets. This can alter your posture and embouchure positioning. Also you should make sure the PM6 is secure to the flugelhorn bell, otherwise it will constantly fall out. Overall a great product.

I bought a Yamaha Silent Brass System for Flugelhorn with an addition mute for Trumpet. Upon arrival I was happy to see that it was made in Japan. The box design was attractive and informative. Opening the box I saw that the packaging was well thought out. The system is simple, so I only referred to the documentation once, but it was clear and complete, unlike most Chinese documentation. The product quality is excellent. Everything is light, but feels solid. The mute doesn't seem to seat very good, but I never felt like it would fall out, so that is Ok. It uses rubbery pads instead of cork and probably doesn't need to be pressed in hard. I first played with just the mute and it was very quite. With neighbors on two sides and a business below, I have no concerns that I might disturb someone. After plugging in the Personal Studio ST9 and adjusting the volume I was very pleased with the sound quality. It sounds as clear as if I was playing without the mute. It does amplify every little sound as the cable taps against the horn, so that is something to watch out for. I did not like the ear buds, but my standard headphones fit right in the output port, and I can plug it in my computer and record myself playing. The price almost stopped me from buying the system, but I now believe it is worth every penny.
