Vandoren's ZZ reeds, available for alto, tenor, and baritone saxophone, feature a unique relationship between the heart of the reed, where the tone is produced, and the thickness of the tip, which is responsible for vibration. The result is a reed with extraordinary tone, with immediate response in a free-blowing manner - even in the altissimo range.
"The new ZZ reed has nearly 100 years of Vandoren's reed-making experience behind it," states Vandoren Brand Manager Sandy Neill. "In all of our testing with professional musicians in Paris, Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago, the ZZ reed was the clear, hands-down choice over other reeds designed for the idiom. One musician was so in love with the ZZs that he insisted on taking the rest of our samples to give to his friends. We had to have Vandoren's Paris facilities overnight us more samples so we'd have some for the next day's tester!" .
Professional saxophonists like L.A. recording artist Gary Foster, Delmark recording artist Frank Catalano, and many others have since switched to the ZZ reed for their performances and recordings.
