The A16 is a great jazz sax mouthpiece in the New York tradition.

These Ebonite mouthpieces are based on the famous American jazz alto mouthpieces of the nineteen-fifties. A warm yet flexible sound that yields much to the performer.

This mouthpiece was a surprise to me. I went to test out some mouthpieces, and without even asking for this mouthpiece the guy at the store gave it to me to test out. I tried out several other pieces which I expected to be much better than this (Meyer, Jody Jazz, Morgan) but to my surprise the V16 had the best sound, and was very free blowing. It has a nice big, full sound down low, and is very smooth up high. I found the other mouthpieces to be shrill up high, but this sounded very comfortable even in the highest altissimo notes. Also, just to let all of those people know who were looking at the picture: This mouthpiece is great looking too. It is polished and has a gold ring around the bottom, which is hard to tell from the picture.

Like a quicker responding, slighty brighter Meyer.

Vandoren mpc's are so incredibly consistent. I've played at least a dozen of them by now and they ALL played. The alto V16 mpc looks and plays similar to a Meyer. There looks to be a bit more roll over baffle and the chamber might be a touch smaller. The response is immediate and the sound is fat, loud and complex with just the right amount of brightness. Like I said, I have yet to encounter a "dud", which is pretty remarkable. I like the A6M with a Fibracell Med Hard reed. Very easy to play with; a nice focused and resonant tone. Definitely check this out.
