This is an excellent lead piece! The very light weight and shallow cup combine for max projection. It has a great high range as well as a great low range! High F to a pedal F is easily accessible to a well trained player. It has a comfortable rim which is flat but not too wide or narrow. It has a big enough throat which is balanced. You will find yourself with a compact, projecting, cutting tone when pushing; then you can back off for the ballad while keeping a lead trombone tone. For a jazz combo I would recommend a bigger cupped piece however, like a 6 1/2AL or Schilke 47-50. That is, if you want to sound like JJ or Wycliffe. But the 47B will satisfy your lead need. Quirks: skeleton outer shape, long shank (which are both ok). I play on a martin urbie green tenor.
