Product Overview and Specifications
The IN5 from SMPro Audio covers a huge range of applications for use in the home/project studio. It is suitable for mixing various analog audio signals to a high quality recording output channel in either high quality low noise analog or pristine 24-bit 96 kHz Digital format (with the optional USBMOD module). In addition to this, the unit will operate as an quality ADDA format converter, and versatile monitor mixer providing facilities for up to 12 channels of monitored signal! (1 x stereo digital with optional board). Many users will be glad to see the options provided for connectivity. 2 x Bal mic inputs with switchable phantom power, peak lights, and gain control can be found on the front of the unit (2 x inserts available on these channels). An additional 4 x mono (2 x stereo) line level inputs, 2 x stereo Turntable , CD or Phono inputs with RIAA EQ and level controls are also present. This is great news for DJ's home audiophile users wanting to digitize their vinyl and transfer to the PC!Dual Bus Mixer Each channel on the IN5 can be switched and routed to a monitor or recording output pair. Perfect for eliminating latency when tracking recordings directly to your PC, this special "Direct Recording Mode" enables the user to have certain inputs monitored only, and others sent to your "record outs" with either 24-bit digital or high quality analog fidelity. It's as easy as pressing a button!Format Converter (optional USBMOD module) An optional high quality 24-bit 96kHz USB enabled ADDA allows conversion from any analog input channel to digital and likewise any digital signal to analog. The input mix functionality allows multiple inputs to mixed and converted to a digital stream simultaneously from any of the 10 analog inputs. A very handy format converter and level matching processor. You can use the IN5 to "take over" the job of converting from some older or outdated poor performing converters in your studio equipment. You have an old DAT with ...er..not so great converters? No problem, just connect the IN5 via the S/PDIF connectors on the rear of the unit to your DAT S/PDIF, connect the analog outputs of the SM IN5 to your mixer, and you have instantly improved your ADDA! Futhermore, analog level controls can now be controlled from the front of the IN5.Recording Interface The IN5 really comes into its own when used in conjunction with a PC digital workstation when the optional USBMOD is installed. Historically, computer recording cards have been a huge problem because on-board converters of many soundcards are of dubious quality and frequently generate distortion. Because they reside inside the computer's housing the signal-to-noise ratio is degraded considerably by computer noise interference. The IN5 solves this problem by offering an optional high-quality stereo converter. Its signal is transmitted digitally and loss-free to and from the computer. The USBMOD modules converters work with 24 bits and offer exceptional performance. Being a stand-alone device in dedicated housing, it is immune to pick-up stray computer based interference. By connecting the USB connector of the IN5's optional USBMOD module to your computer the SM IN5 the unit serves as an outboard converter unit for your digital recording projects. When using the IN5 fitted with the optional USBMOD module in combination with your PC you will enjoy a quantum leap in the definition and clarity of your recordings.Users can mix and monitor signals independently from either the recording PC or the inputs on the In5 simultaneously. This is a great facility that provides flexibility and performance for users of standard two channel soundcards (analog or digital).
