To be honest I have tried several snares and metal ones still remains the loudest around. But, this is as close as it gets. The combination of Maple with a sooo deep shell gives you projection, loudness without giving up the warm maple tone. I was worried about overtones before purchasing it but with a two ply clear pre muffled head and a good tuning you can get a DRY yet LOUD and musical warm tone. Very easy to fall in love with for an 80s band like mine. The one thing to improve: I would prefer a vertical strainer. Amazing finish by the way!!!

I’ve had this snare for over a month now and I’m in love! I have always played metal snares and never had a wooden one. Because of its mammoth size, it pushes all the volume you'll ever need - but because its maple it retains tone at the same time! And I haven't even dabbled with the tuning a lot; it sounded good right out of the box with minimal tuning. It’s got the most amazing pop, but yet its sensitive with everything from buzz rolls to ghost notes. Pearl....Maple....Vinnie....Price....it’s a total no-brainer.

This is indeed a powerful snare drum, but don't let that stop you. I do not typically play metal, so I was a bit hesitant when I purchased this drum, but as soon as I played it, I was very impressed. It is quite versatile; not just a heavy metal snare drum. I have yet to ditch the stock Remo Ambassador that came with it because it sounds fine. A head with a bit more muffling might provide a more refined sound. I recorded with
