This oboe has been amazing to me ever since I played my first note. Any trouble I have ever had was either me, or my reeds, but this oboe as always played with the most GORGEOUS tone. SMOOTH and quiet key work moves with no effort, even in those typically chunky, slower keys. VERY, and I mean VERY minute intonation troubles. Low C# can be a tad flat, but the rest of the low octave speaks in tune with little effort on your part. I had to experiment before finding a perfect fingering for high Eb. The oboe doesn't like the "standard" fingerings, but once I found one, it played it wonderfully and in tune. I have never had more compliments on my tone before until I got this oboe. I have had musicians come to me and say "you made me develop a whole NEW appreciation for the sound of the oboe...you make it sound so much DIFFERENT than the typical "good oboe player" sound. The tone is rich, thick, dark, never too harsh or swanky. Some people claim rosewood is hard to make project. This oboe's tone has been SOARING over full symphony orchestras for a year now. It is heard easily, and it is LOVED by all who hear it (when it is played well of course). Lastly, the hole for your reed is slightly larger than normal so you never have to put cork grease on your reeds. They slide in with ease and no air leaks out from it being too loose. And have I mentioned THE PRICE! Sounds better than any Loree I’ve heard and its WAY CHEAPER than any other pro model out there. You will NOT be sorry. Just be nice to the rosewood, it WILL crack. Mine did in the first half a year BUT the Patricola Company was happy to quickly replace the top joint, at NO CHARGE! I've been treating it better, and no crack since. :)
