Product Description
Morrie Backun
This mouthpiece was designed to produce a dark sound that would project a full rich tone in large concert halls. The Morales-Backun Philadelphia mouthpiece is the personal choice of Ricardo Morales and requires a developed air support.
Product Overview and Specifications
The rumours are true. Backun Musical Services has reinvented yet another piece of the clarinet puzzle - mouthpieces. Together with Ricardo Morales, Principal Clarinet in The Philadelphia Orchestra, Morrie Backun has designed and prototyped a custom clarinet mouthpiece that features complex CNC (Computer Numeric Control) technology, in addition to the utilization of laser cutting and modification. These mouthpieces take advantage of the laws of physics and science with the use of The Boundary Layer; a complex property that increases the vibration and response of the reed, as it floats on the mouthpiece table. In addition to this, a series of grooves complete the Resonance Tempering - a technique that was devised to strengthen the tip, table and rails of the mouthpiece in order to assure accurate facings and specifications that can be reproduced time and time again. To discover a whole new take on the mouthpiece, and see what all the talk is about, contact the Woodwind & Brasswind to learn more about the Morales Backun Custom Mouthpiece.

Morrie Backun barrels, bells and mouthpieces have changed the clarinet world , and my enjoyment of playing the clarinets I own competely. Other musicans (and conductors) instantly recognize the focused tone and warmth, and I feel the improved evenness of timbre, intonation, tonguing and FUN. "Playing" an instrument is "Work" , but Morrie's genius for combining craftsmanship and art will take you to the next level! ~ Richard Alan Briglia
