Laskey French Horn Mouthpieces
Development of the French Horn Mouthpiece Line
Years of making custom french horn mouthpieces for players from around the world has helped determine what players want and need to make a difference in their sound. These features are now available to all players in the form of the Laskey standard product line of french horn mouthpieces. A special thanks to the many professional players from around the country who helped in the development of a concise and exceptional line of french horn mouthpieces consisting of four sizes.
A Unique Rim Contour
A unique quality of our standard french horn mouthpiece line is the unique rim contour. There is definition to the inside diameter and yet the roundness of the rim shape allows for easy movement, as well as a high degree of control and flexibility. We realize that many french horn players feel a personal affinity with a rim that they have played for many years. There is a certain degree of "comfort" in having the same rim on your face. But we believe this rim will not only offer comfort, it will also provide a higher degree of accuracy, flexibility and improved intonation.
French Horn Cup Sizes
Our cup selection was determined by what are the most popular sizes being used by players today and what we believe will offer optimum performance. Laskey mouthpieces are available in the following three cup sizes. We have chosen not to offer deeper cups on the shallower mouthpieces as we feel it will not create the proper balance needed. All cup sizes are made with a standard throat size of .182"/("14")/4,62mm.
Cup Size G
This is our standard cup and is offered in all sizes. In our tests, this cup provided the best mix of tone and color to virtually every player. While slightly shallower than many cups we have seen players use, its performance outshines them all.
Cup Size F
A slightly deeper and more funnel cup than the G cup. It will still have the precision of attack that the G cup offers, but with a slightly thicker and rounder sound. A little deeper than the traditional "Farkas" cup.
Cup Size E
Deep, yet with a degree of brilliance that is not usually found in a cup this deep. This cup is not only ideal for 2nd and 4th horn, but also has enough brilliance to be used on some of the higher horn parts.
Laskey Numbering System
As french horn players seem to use the metric system to describe the size of the mouthpieces, we decided to number our line in a metric way. Our line represents the metric measurement, but we drop the first number. For instance, if a mouthpiece measures :
