Hometown Nashville, TN
After reading many reviews of King jazz trombones, I decided to put them to the test. After playing Bach's my entire life, I wanted to see if a King was really easier to play. After trying several examples in my home town, I went to the King factory in East Lake, Ohio to try all of the various 3B and 2B configurations. I was amazed at the differences between my Bach 12 and the King trombone comparables. And my Bach 12 with a gold brass bell and light weight slide was no slouch. It was made in the mid 80's. It is a great horn. But, the King was really that much better. I settled on a Jigg's slide with a yellow brass 2B bell. I preferred the straight .491 bore to the 2B's usual dual bore. It just takes less effort to play everything!!! After I returned home, I went to my first rehearsal with it and everyone wanted to know how it was possible for me to sound that much better in just one day. It was the horn. You really ought to try one. Try all bell material configurations before you buy. There are tremendous response differences between the sterling, gold brass, and yellow brass. And, if you can, go to the factory, they'll treat you like a King!
