Like all practice mutes this mute succeeds in muffling the sound to around mf levels but limits the amount of air that goes through the horn. In comparison to other practice mutes this one muffles the sound about the same and creates about the same air blockage but is much cheaper than some of the other practice mutes available. It will take some getting used to but it is a useful tool to have for trips when getting a practice room is difficult or impossible.

This mute is excellent. The tubing that allows the air to go through works amazingly well - and still maintains the sound level at conversational tones - and I play loud all the time. That feature I mentioned - a tube running down the middle much like a Solotone mute - also reduces the backpressure that used to be so bothersome with older practice mutes. It's not like playing an open horn - but it's not like any other practice mute I've ever played either.
