As another reviewer pointed out, this is not a swab. When your flute is clean and dry, there will still be some residual moisture. With this or without this, the moisture will not evaporate from a closed case. Without the wicks to absorb it, it will stay on the bore or pads. This product works well, but the only problem is that it is slightly longer than the body of the flute. I tried it in several flute cases, and found that if the flute case has a tight fit on the ends of the body joint, then that extra fraction of an inch might make it impossible to close the case. If you have 1/16 of an inch of slack at each end (1/8 total) then it will probably be fine.

I have used this product for years. The pads on my instrument have done extremely well, and replacement is rarely necessary. In actuality, when I loaned my student flute to my niece and the saver was not used, this is when we encountered problems with the pads. I truly believe that after cleaning the flute first, using the saver to wick away the excess moisture is a plus even if the moisture may remain in the flute, it is not in the pads and the surface area by which the may evaporate is greatly increased through the many little fibers in the saver!
