This is an awesome trombone for either a high school sophomore or junior to "step up to." The dual bore lets you play the third or bass trombone parts with a rich, full tone. It allows you scream the high notes in lead Latin and jazz parts. The midrage sound is also excellent letting you blend in perfectly with the rest of your concert band or wind ensemble. In addition, the slide action (when properly taken care of, of course) is as smooth and quick as any. The F attachment is also great to have. The closed wrap design makes it compact, yet functional. May take some getting use to given both the extra weight and air required and the size difference. In addition, it will take alot of practice to overcome your instinct to extend out to sixth position to hit C. One more thing, the trigger slightly changes the timbre of the instrument. Shouldn't be noticeable but for the perfectionist it might be irritating. This is the Capri's one small fault that robs it of the coveted fifth star. Don't let your director, trombone salesmen, or anyone else goad you into plunking down several thousand dollars for an "artist," "professional," or "custom," model trombone. This one fits the mold nicely. Also, don't allow these people to pressure you into buying a Thayer valve or Hagmann valve F attachment - it's just not worth it. Unless, of course, you're playing principal trombone in the London or New York Philharmonic. All in all, this is one of the best trombones out there for the money. Getzen has a long history of making great brass instruments and the 525F Capri Trombone is by no means an exception. I highly recommend it. I would give it four and a half stars if I could. Woodwind and Brasswind is also a great site to buy from. If you haven't already done so, place your cursor over the "add to cart" button. If you're an advancing high school student, you won't regret it.
