I played my school's Loree English Horn for about a year and a half, and I could never achieve the sound all Horn players try to achieve. When I got my fox, there was an instant difference in tone. It is a broad, full, sonorous tone, and it stays pretty well in tune. It is wood so there is the maintenance aspect, but it isn't too bad. The horn has ouststanding craftmanship; the keywork is really smooth and quiet (less clicks). I've had it for about six months and I still love. It easily compares and surpasses European horns, yet retains a reasonable price for a pro horn.

For the price you pay, you get one heck of a horn. My high school has a three year old Loree and it has only had two players and it doesn't even compare to the FOX 500. the tone quality (given a good reed) is outstanding. It has a very round tone; the 500 is the quintessential english horn. The horn is in tune from low b to high g off the staff, and the high notes seem to sing. In my opinion for a pro horn, at the price you pay, there in no comparison. I would recommend the double case for doublers, because it has plenty of room for the essentials. Just outstanding.
