The Jimmy Vaughan Strat is a great combination of classic Fender styling and functionality. Over the past 40 or so years I have had the opportunity to own and play a lot of very nice guitars and currently I have 15 Fender electric guitars from Custom Shop to MiM Standard and can honestly say that the JV will hold its own with just about any of them. The soft V neck is very similar to the Eric Clapton neck and is a real pleasure to play. The finish on the neck is satin and quite smooth to the touch. The hardware on this guitar is the same as that found on the American Vintage Strats with Gotoh vintage tuners and American Vintage bridge. The Tex-Mex pickups are very well voiced and balanced. They will give you a nice traditional strat tone but they have enough bite to stand out in the mix. I actually prefer them to the Texas Specials. The pups and pots are wired a little different than normally found on a Strat. The middle pup is wide open with no tone control while the neck and bridge pups are controlled by Tone 1 and 2. This gives you a bit of a different sound particularly when in position 2 and 4. Speaking of the pots, they are the same CTS pots found on the American standard and custom shop Fender Strats. The switch is the same standard 5 position switch found on the American Standard Strats. Another nice touch is the inclusion of the Schaller strap lock system. Overall this is an excellent guitar for the price and a great choice for either a beginner or experienced musician. Give it a try; I think you will like it.
