With the new GA-45SCE Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric guitar, Fender, has once again pushed the envelope, raising the expectations of what a great guitar should be. Even the most discerning guitarists will be impressed. Normally, you have to go to a much higher-priced instrument to find a solid spruce soundboard - the pivotal feature for professional-sounding acoustic guitars. The GA-45SCE features the Fender Fishman Classic 4/ACLR dual pickup system with active onboard preamp featuring volume, bass, mid, treble, and mid sweep controls. A solid rosewood back and rosewood sides provide luxurious look and feel. This fine guitar incorporates numerous Fender-designed features - like a beautiful, acoustically sensitive body shape, perfect-intonation bridge design, and a state-of-the-art bracing scheme. A dovetailed neck joint, abalone rosettes, and tortoiseshell binding combine with the new low-mass bridge design and Grover tuners for playability, aesthetic beauty, and fantastic tone at a great price. |

The Fender acoustic-electric, while retaining much of the build quality, and playability of the higher priced guitars, comes at a very reasonable street price. Given the solid wood top and back, the above average electronics, and the nice appointments, such as abalone rosette without pickguard (never been much for pickguards as I don't use a pick), attractive tortoise binding, and above average build quality, I think this guitar is a steal when compared to other "name brand" instruments with these features. Yet another plus for me is the fact that this guitar has a bit smaller scale (25.3"), making those difficult to reach, odd chords and voicings a joy to experiment with. With the solid wood top and back (the sides are laminated), the Fender will open up in depth and quality of tone over many years, whereas comparably priced laminates will sound their best as new, off the rack. And as far as playability goes, the Fender comes with 1 11/16" neck (at the nut), and is very capable of being set up to play as easy as any guitar within 1000 dollars of its reasonable price tag. I think that Fender is truly reaching out to the value conscious consumer with very high quality solid tonewood guitars. Their new line of entry level acoustics and acoustic-electric guitars is anything but entry level, in my humble opinion. Before putting 1000 dollars towards a comparably made solid wood guitar with electronics, I would recommend finding a reputable Fender Dealer and playing some of Fender's new line of solidly built, attractively made, and reasonably priced guitars.
