Your slides will appreciate the feel of the synthetic slide grease. Fat Cat synthetic tuning slide grease will not "Melt" into your valves like other lanolin-based greases.

Detailed Product Description

Fat Cat

Fat Cat tuning slide grease
Fat Cat Tuning Slide Grease is quite different in its chemical makeup. It is synthetic grease for a specific reason: Petroleum greases, which are basically anhydrous lanolin or a heavy oil with a lithium soap filler, work well for tuning slides but each tends to melt when warm, or when mixed with valve oil. So as water and oil from your pistons and rotors seep into the tuning slides, it dissolves an organic grease and later may re-enter your valves, making them dirty and sluggish. Fat Cat Synthetic Tuning Slide Grease is resistant to heat (you can't melt it on the stove.) and more important, resistant to mixing with petroleum valve oil and water. With this combination of Fat Cat Oil and Fat Cat Grease, you will notice that your maintenance schedule of re-greasing and re-oiling is now greatly extended.

I have 5 horns that need attention. Whether it's for my 80 year old King or my new Yamaha 842, Fat Cat is the only slide lubricant I use. I've tried the rest, Fat Cat's the best.

Well, I'll just say one thing- this lasted me through two weeks of band camp (playing 8 hours a day), and my marching baritone's slides (heaven forbid, there's so many!) are still like the first day of camp. This works great in hot or cold weather, rainy or not. It's lasted longer than anything else I can find, and that's saying something!

I play tuba and use this slide grease on the tunning slide for the first valve. I tweak that slide constantly while playing, and Fat Cat is the slickest grease I have ever used. I also sometimes use it on other slides during cold winter months, because it stays slick even when cold. My only complaint is that it comes in small containers, so if you like it, buy a couple at a time. If a slide is already too slick or falls out too easily, then I would not recommend this grease.
