Musical Experience: Son is a very busy high school musician

I am the parent of a high school musician who is very active in several concert bands, marching band, orchestra and many solo performances each year. Primarily a flutist, he had been using the school piccolo, but was really unhappy with the way it played and sounded. The time had come to purchase a piccolo for him. As we are on a tight budget, and after many hours of research, I purchased this Emerson P3 with two heads for him a year ago. While he plays the heck out of it, really giving it a work-out on an almost daily basis, it has held up remarkably well. Affordably priced in comparison to other brands, and with the added bonus of the two headjoints, both my son and I are happy with this purchase. Simply put, the pros far outweigh the cons with this instrument. I asked my son what he did and did not like about this piccolo. Here is what he said: PROS: High B-naturals come out with ease on BOTH headjoints; Overall, is a breeze to play; Composite headjoint plays well in ensembles – blends easily; Metal headjoint projects greatly outdoors; Dynamics are easily controlled; Simple transitioning between flute & piccolo; Pads are excellent; After a year of use, has not required even a single repair or tweak; BONUS! WW&BW service was excellent & painless (as is usual) & shipping was speedy. CONS: Case is too small – the wells are not deep enough (you should seriously consider purchasing another case - we did!); Metal headjoint tends to possess a harsh tone in the higher registers, B-flat lever is too small – though still possible, it is more difficult to operate in quicker passages; Thumb B-flat can have an airy tone.
