Product Description
DiMarzio
The DiMarzio DropSonic is a high output bridge humbucker designed for the extended low end and heavy chords that dropped tuning delivers, plus serious treble response for single-note solos and standard tuning.
Product Overview and Specifications
The DropSonic

The DropSonic isn't just a one-sound pickup, either. In addition to the standard series humbucking sound, our patented design utilizes four-conductor wiring to access two different single-coil sounds plus parallel humbucking mode, for three additional sounds that are distinctive and versatile

Recommended For:
Solid body guitars, bridge position.

Those of you familiar with DiMarzio history will note the visual resemblance to our old MegaDrive(TM), but the design is completely different. Installation direction makes a noticeable difference in the sound, particularly with overdriven amps. With the solid bar toward the bridge, the sound is a little brighter and better-defined, and this is the direction we recommend for heavy strings and low tunings. With the adjustable polepieces toward the bridge, the sound is warmer and a touch louder, and we think this works best for standard tuning and more solo-oriented playing. Each coil has a unique tonal character, so the two split sounds are different, and parallel humbucking produces a third clean and bright sound.

I put this pickup in a peavey v exp and it juiced it up. The dropsonic has more bass and mids and less highs, or we can say that the highs are different. This pickup can be wired up a bunch of ways and you can a achieve different tones buy switching the pickup around. I found that this pickup does work better when playing drop tuning and it gives standard tuning a different tone than other pickups.

I had this pickup installed in an Ibanez RG. With the polepieces on the bridge side, since I hardly tune lower then Db. It sounds great. Has a good amount of bass. I personally like pickups with more bass. I've used all kinds of tunings and this pickup has a good sound regardless of the tuning you use. My only complaint is it doesn't do so well on a clean channel. It has a slite amount of distortion but not too bad. I use it with an XXX and Randell 100 watt amp(not sure the model its not mine). This pickup is made to rock. And it does, very well.
