Great Mouthpiece after the begginer

In my freshman year of high school, my band director moved all the upcoming tubists from the standard beginner mouthpiece to Conn Hellenbergs. The greatest feature about the Hellenberg is that it makes you force a lot of air through the mouthpiece in order to get a great tone. Sounds great and is priced well. It lasted me 1 and a half years until I started to outplay it. I pushed so much air, that my tone became terrible, and when I would try to play softer, I would go extremely flat. My high range was also extremely flat. Now I play on a Schilke 69C4, which is amazing and fits my style perfectly. However, the Hellenberg is still a great mouthpiece, because it’s the training wheels to other mouthpieces. If you have been playing for two years and want to upgrade your mouthpiece, this is the mouthpiece for you. After that, it’s all personal preference...
