Product Overview and Specifications
Buffet Vintage R13 A Clarinet

Description
The Vintage R13, patterned after the famous R13s of the 1950s, utilizes many elements not found on the modern R13s. There are no metal tenon rings, several tone hole placements have been adjusted to improve tuning, and the bell is 1mm longer, producing a very fluid clarion register. This instrument comes standard with an adjustable thumb rest, two barrels (one conical / one cylindrical), and a beautiful calfskin double case with plush interior.

History
In 1996, during a tour of the US and Canada, Rene Lesieux, Buffet's Research and Development Manager, fielded many requests from players who wanted a clarinet with the same feel and sound quality of the 1950's R13s. The result is a clarinet that has a great scale, a fluid sound and better repsonse and sound emission.

I have had this clarinet for four or five years and I love it. If I could clone it and make it my Bb I would. The tone is rich and dark and it is very even. I find that it plays pretty easily for me. I love my Vintage A.

The Buffet R-13 Vintage A is a little different from most A clarinets. For one it has a very small bore. Let me repeat that VERY. A clarinets are real stuffy and should have a pretty good size bore. With the vintage's small bore it makes it harder to play and require more air to make a sound. You'll adjust but it would just take a minute. My advice to anyone out there with a Bb Vintage is to not buy a matching A but a regular R-13 A with a more open bore. Besides the small bore the vintage A has GREAT key work and is actually a nice clarinet. It has some odd looking tone holes, but those are made to make it sound better.
