7BW, The "screamer" for the New Age

IÆm sure when someone mentions a ôscreamerö mouthpiece the 7BW doesnÆt come in mind, but it should! Standard ôscreamerö mouthpieces are notorious for poor tone, horrible intonation, and bottoming out (when your lips touch the bottom of the mouthpiece causing your lips to stop vibrating). Anyone can blast ugly high register notes with a tiny, shallow mouthpiece with a tight bore but the number one thing a trumpet player should always strive for is good tone even if range is more important to them personally. ThatÆs were the 7BW comes in to satisfy those two very different areas. The current 7BW model is roughly 16.50mm in diameter making it a medium-small mouthpiece by todayÆs standard. A medium-small mouthpiece produces easy high register notes and fabulous endurance (satisfying the range WANT *range is almost always a want and rarely a need*) Combine this with the medium-deep B cup and large #7 backbore for a full rounded tone; you got the makings for a great mouthpiece. However the extreme high register is hard to push out with the flare and brilliance of a lead or solo players with a fairly deep cup and large backbore and the wide (W) rim is needed to help with the endurance issue that may arise when such roles are attempted to be filled. Nevertheless for most high register and commercial needs the 7BW is a logical sel
