Product Description
Bach
The classic bass trombone with the addition of the free blowing Thayer valve to enhance the carrying power of the sound.
Product Overview and Specifications
The B50 Bass Trombone with Thayer Valve System

The Thayer Valve
The standard Bach bass trombone has a very good feel between the open horn and the valve system. With the addition of the Thayer valve the valve body becomes so open that it is difficult to feel a difference in resistance between the open horn and the addition of the valve tubing. This is due to the unique design of the Thayer unit and how the air is channeled through the valve tubing.

Standard Features

BellStandard 9.5" yellow brass. Also available with 9.5" bell in gold brass; 10.5" yellow brass or gold brass bell.

Valve SystemThis selection has the Thayer model single and double triggers as standard. The valve design requires that the horn have an open wrap and the Thayer valve allows a more unrestricted flow of air through the valve tubing.

Being a euphonium player by training I began playing bass trombone in college as my secondary instrument. Our school had an edwards bass, which was a fine instrument. However, upon graduating I needed my own bass trombone. I became aware of the Bach 50T at an intercollegiate honor band where one of the bass trombonists was performing on this instrument. The size and richness of the sound grabbed my attention. When I finally had the opportunity to play a Bach 50T for myself I found that there is much more that is appealing about this instrument than just the size of its sound. The tone color of this horn is extremely versatile, it can be warm and mellow just as easily as it can have an edge to project through an ensemble. The low register in particular caught my attention, it was extremely focused and lost virtually nothing in the way of tone quality...an essential for bass trombone playing. I must add that compared to the other bass trombones I have played on (Besson Soveriegn, Edwards, Bach 50B) this instrument requires a considerably larger amount of air to produce a full supported sound, but this is a minor adjustment a person can adapt to quickly.
