The Bach 50B3 Stradivarius Series Professional Bass Trombone has set the standard for the bass trombones on the market today. The Bach 50B3 features a.562 bore with double independent rotors for a very powerful, free-blowing instrument. The 50B3 Series is available in traditional wrap F Attachment with a 9.5 inch bell (50B3) and 10.5 inch bell (50B3L) or with an open wrap F Attachment with a 9.5 inch bell (50B3O) and 10.5 inch bell (50BL3O) or with a 9.5 inch gold bell (50B3OG) or 10.5 inch gold bell (50BL3OG).

This is the horn that possible started it all. The large .562" bore, the optional 10.5" bell combined with the double in-line, independent rotors, this machine can put out some sound. At home equally well in the large jazz ensemble, brass choir or symphony orchestra - this one can handle the big jobs.

This is a decent horn if you get a good one. The 9.5 Gold bell isnt flexible, so you can only play it well in classical venues. The response is slow enough to be annoying if you try it in a big band. The horn I have is probably 7 years old now and it has clicky valves and the ferrule under the mpce is loose. I suppose this can be contributed to 7 years of high schoolers' abuse. The good thing about this horn is that it sounds good in your symphony when played correctly. Unfortunately it isnt as easy to play as the new Yamaha. It takes a little figuring out I guess. I reviewed this using a Doug Yeo mouthpiece.

Now that I have had my Bach passed the dreaded 7 year mark when they are all supposed to break, I have to say that I am even more pleased with it. With the exception of a few minor add-ons (green hoe rest bar) I still have my stock horn. I have the 10.5" gold brass bell version with a lightweight slide and have to say that I have been blessed. It projects great, has a nice rich sound throughout the range, and speaks easy.
