I'm a multi-instrumentalist whose primary instruments are saxophones & trumpets. I have a Pro Tools home studio, am a trained sound engineer, and a former music performance major in college. For my live gigs, I use this AKG mic along with its receiver, and I have never been dissatisfied. The sound is very good and very even throughout the saxophone's range. A sax's sound is produced from "high to low" with the fingering combos, but this mic seems to pick up evenly, even in the altissimo. I always clip this mic to the bell facing the body of the horn, and not facing down "into" the bell, and that seems to work best for me (I'm a loud, aggressive player). The most aggravating aspect of this setup is the wire that connects the mic to the body-pack. I've actually pulled a horn or two off a stand (until I got better stands) not realizing the wire had gotten tangled with my other horns. But as far as sound and basic function, this mic is an excellent product worthy of 5 stars. I would not even have a problem using this mic in a "live" recording application. I've had mine for 3 years now and no problems.
