Product Overview and Specifications
M40 Piano Mic

M40, A bold new direction for microphones
The M40 has been designed for piano but works equally well in other applications such as boundary layer miking (conference, stage). The M40 is a bold new direction for microphones incorporating integrated circuit technology, an interchangeable chip which allows for multi-purpose use, and emulates many popular microphones with the advantages of its ultra compact size. It is capable of picking up subtle passages as well as sound pressure levels up to 141dB.Its rugged construction of anodized aviation aluminum allows it to withstand high impact while being lightweight and non-corrosive. The M-40 terminates to the AP 40 aluminum pre-amp with chip technology, which can be powered by phantom power or 9 volt battery.

I have recorded grand pianos with various mic combinations, but I am amazed at the full sound that is generated from just using this very small mic. This is a big, natural sound across the whole note spectrum. So far (only several weeks of use) I have not heard any of the slightly ringy sound in the upper mid-range that I hear a lot in both live mic settings and on recordings, when trying to capture the harmonics of a grand piano at volume. You can run this mic direct to phantom power, or you can put a 9v battery into the external box that contains the circuitry (the mic itself is tiny, and sits directly on the sound board.) Nicely machined materials. These people really seem to know what they are doing.
