My Amati has an exception silver plated finish with the top and bottom caps of brushed silver...real cool. The heavy bracing is also exceptional. The horn isn't all that heavy, even for a person in his eighties. Having owned many brass instruments in past years, I can truthfully state that this horn is as good as any and better than most and costs less than most. I have come to respect the Amati workmanship and most reasonable prices. Their quality extends to woodwinds also, some of which I have purchased for schools.

Plays no better than my 1970 King Silver Flair

This horn was to replace my 1970 King Silver Flair which I've played for 44 years! When it arrived and I took it out of the wrapping paper, the bell was bent! Upon inspection, the horn felt very substantial and balanced. The silver plate had some blemishes near the bell, and I immediately noticed the solder ring around the bell, indicating that the bell was a cheaper, two-piece bell rather than the advertised hand made one piece bell. I compared the playability of the Amati with my old King by playing many passages first on one horn, then the other, using the same mouthpiece. I could tell no difference or improvement in my playing, tone, articulation, range, or in any other parameter, tangible or intangible. The main difference was that the Amati weighed more! This would probably be a good starter or intermediate horn, but does not rate the "professional" moniker. Perhaps my old Flair plays very well!
