A lot of horn for the money

I have been playing the Allora A191 Compact tuba for four months primarily in band concerts and Sunday mornings in my church's orchestra. I love the big dark sound I can produce with little effort,and am especially impressed with thefluid action of the rotary valve mechanisms. Don't be fooled by the name "Compact"; this is a big horn with a .827 bore and oversized 18.5 inch bell. The only thing compact about it is the length. The overall quality of manufacture is good. The tuning slides do not have the machined fit of some of the more expensive European and Japanese instruments and the laquer finish had a few small flaws (hardly noticeable except on very close inspection). Being a large horn of course it is heavy, 55 pounds in the case; thanks to the wheels on the case it is manageable. Also, I was personally disapointed in the mouthpiece.

Looked all around for a good used one but when I went into WWBW they know their Tubas. He told me this Tuba would do everything I would want it to do, and I know now that was a understatement. So far it has been lots of fun and I'm sure it will last longer than I will.
